What do you think church is about? Some people think it is about family. Some think that church is about spiritual experiences. Others think of churches as Bible schools. Some even think of Kids' Church as child minding. Most would say that at times it is a mixture of all of those.
The truth is church isn't about an idea, it's about people.
The word church in the original language of the Bible means "the called out ones". That means that church isn't about a building or a teaching programme. It's about us and those around us, it's about people. But God didn't just grant us membership of a club, He went much further than that and He called us to be His sons and daughters. And that is true of the children in Kids' Church too, they are adopted by Him to be sons and daughters of God.
As a team let us commit ourselves to helping develop the lives and the potential of the young people around us, these "children of God". We do this by creating a fun, exciting environment for them to enjoy and by creating strong and meaningful relationships. Our aim is to encourage them in their own personal walk with God. Let us commit ourselves now to the children and their families, let us do what we can to help them walk close to Him in their everyday life.
It is good to be good but better to lead people to a God who changes lives. Do you find yourself working hard at being kind and caring? Is it important to you to be well thought of and respected by those around you? Of course we are called by our heavenly Father to be compassionate and loving and faithful and gentle and kind and full of all the characteristics that come from a close walk with Him but to me that sometimes doesn't seem enough. I don't want to be simply a nice person I want to see people's lives changed as they learn about God's love for them. I don't want Kids' Church just to be a place of fun and warmth it must be a place where we see children challenged and grow as they seek the Father's will and as we support and encourage them in their spiritual walk.
